Verizon Edgewood Atlanta Mural
Painted by George F. Baker III and Roc Sol
Created as part of Verizon’s Project Love Letter, this mural celebrates Edgewood as a place where history is lived, remembered, and continuously written. Located just blocks from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s childhood home, the artwork draws from the neighborhood’s deep cultural roots and enduring legacy. Visual elements reference Ebenezer Baptist Church, where Dr. King worshipped, alongside symbols of everyday life, growth, and movement within the community.
At the center of the mural, a young woman moves forward with confidence while honoring her past while stepping into her own future. She represents generations shaped by Edgewood’s history, carrying its lessons, resilience, and pride as they create new chapters of their own. The phrase “Atlanta, Where History Is Made” reflects the city’s ongoing role as a place of leadership, activism, and cultural influence.
The mural was painted by artists Roc Sol and George F. Baker III as part of Project Roadmap, an artist-led mural collective, on behalf of Verizon’s Project Love Letter initiative. Through this collaboration, local artists were invited to interpret Atlanta’s neighborhoods as visual love letters—celebrating culture, creativity, and community through public art. Cat Eye Creative, founded by Adam Crawford, served as project management support, overseeing materials sourcing and logistics to help bring the artists’ visions to life.
As part of Verizon’s commitment to uplifting local voices ahead of the World Cup, the mural also invites community participation through an embedded QR code connecting residents to volunteer opportunities with Hands On Atlanta. More than a visual landmark, the mural serves as a reminder that honoring history means staying actively engaged in shaping what comes next.
The video recap for Atlanta Edgewood Mural was scored by Miami Beat Wave, a GRAMMY Recording Academy member and multi-charting music producer whose original beat added the perfect layer to enhance the message behind the artwork.
