This Paint by Numbers mural was created for the Sebastian Strong Foundation in collaboration with Leadership Miami’s 4 the 305 team as part of a meaningful renovation of the Bone Marrow Transplant unit at Holtz Children’s Hospital. Completed in under 100 days, the transformation brought the Sebastian Strong Superhero Lounge to life in honor of Sebastian Ortiz’s legacy to create a space designed to offer comfort, dignity, and hope to children and families navigating the challenges of childhood cancer. Commissioned by the Sebastian Strong Foundation, our Project Roadmap artist team was honored to curate this powerful creative initiative with a paint by numbers mural for the space.

The mural helped this space become an active space for healing and connection as Patients, nurses, hospital staff, and community members all came together to leave their mark on this mural alongside our artist team—Roc Sol, Dee Perez, and Miss Lushy. Our goal was to create a vibrant, uplifting focal point that would transform the room into a sanctuary of resilience and peace. The hands-on, Paint by Numbers format created a therapeutic experience that created was a moment of calm, reflection, and joy as they came to paint the mural while calming music played in the background. The finished mural is now a permanent symbol of unity and strength within the space, providing a sense of brightness and comfort to everyone who enters.

The impact of this project was deeply felt. It was the first mural of its kind in the unit, unveiled on Sebastian’s birthday during a ribbon-cutting ceremony that brought the community together in his honor. Jake, a childhood cancer survivor and inspiration behind the project, became the first to use the newly renovated lounge and to ring the victory bell after treatment—an unforgettable, full-circle moment that gave the space even more meaning.

This mural is a testament to the power of art to heal, connect, and uplift. It stands as a lasting tribute to Sebastian’s legacy and a reminder that creativity can bring light even in the darkest moments. When art is rooted in purpose and community, it becomes something truly transformational.
